Control & Protection Engineer (Switchgear & Substations)
About the Role
Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) is hiring a Control & Protection Engineer (Switchgear / Substations) at its Power Division plant on Ferozepur Road, Lahore. The engineer designs protection schemes, configures numerical relays, and tests substation control panels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate protection schemes, interlocking logic, and tripping sequences for medium and high-voltage switchgear panels.
- Configure, parameterize, and test numerical protection relays (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE) using secondary injection test sets.
- Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site commissioning of 11kV/132kV control and protection panels.
- Prepare schematic wiring diagrams, terminal drawings, and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for grid substation projects.
- Provide technical expertise for retrofitting, protection upgrades, and troubleshooting of substation automation systems (IEC 61850).
- Liaise with DISCOs, NTDC engineers, and industrial clients to secure protection scheme approvals.
Qualifications & Skills
Basic Requirements
- B.Sc. / B.E. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering university.
- 3–5 years of dedicated experience in power system protection, switchgear testing, or substation commissioning.
- Hands-on expertise with secondary injection test sets (Omicron, Megger) and numerical relay software (DIGSI, PCM600).
- Solid understanding of IEC 61850 substation automation protocol and NTDC/WAPDA protection specifications.
- Valid registration with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting power system fault analysis and relay coordination studies (ETAP).
- Commissioning experience on 132kV grid station projects.
