Officer – Quality Assurance & R&D (Food Science)
About the Role
Agro Processor & Atmospheric Gases Ltd (APAG - manufacturers of Soya Supreme) is seeking an Officer – QA and R&D for its food production plant in S.I.T.E., Karachi. The role manages food chemistry testing, new edible product formulations, taste panels, shelf-life studies, and PSQCA/Halal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative recipes and formulations for edible oils, banaspati, culinary sauces, and specialty food products.
- Conduct laboratory chemical analysis, microbiological tests, and sensory evaluation taste panels for new product batches.
- Coordinate with Plant Production and QC teams to conduct line clearance audits and accelerate shelf-life stability studies.
- Formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical product specifications aligned with PSQCA, Halal, and food safety standards.
- Liaise with procurement to source and evaluate food-grade ingredients, functional additives, and pilot plant machinery.
Qualifications & Skills
Basic Requirements
- BS in Food Science & Technology, Food Engineering, or Applied Chemistry from an HEC-recognized university.
- Fresh graduate to 1 year of relevant experience in food quality control, product development, or analytical laboratory testing.
- Solid knowledge of food chemistry, lipid technology, food microbiology, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Familiarity with Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Halal certification guidelines.
- Proactive analytical mindset, attention to detail, and passion for culinary science.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or trainee experience in an edible oil refinery, dairy, or FMCG food manufacturing plant.
- Knowledge of ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System) or HACCP principles.
